It's apples and oranges (or drama and comedy), but I agree that each show wins "Best of 2011" in their respective genres. Louie can't even be classified as straight comedy, though. I'll have to finish out the current seasons of Community (hopefully) and Parks and Rec before I declare a clear winner for this season,

I'm with @avclub-b0f7b8df4360f2dc6d1214ab16072ba3:disqus . I think the back half is clearly superior. As I posted in another thread, the "Jisanthapuss" bit is worth $5 all on it's own.

Excellent point. I forget that he pretty much runs his website himself. If he has someone running it for him, they have gone way out of their way to make it seem that he's doing it all himself. The website and sales process seems very homemade (in a good way)

^ This. There's probably not a lot of up and comers that could get away with this, but if you have the following to do it, this is a great business model.

Have you heard Rory Scovel? I was surprised to see him recognized, but he's a regional comic in my area that I've seen several times. I was at the taping for that special. Great stuff.

None of this was used in the show. Some similar themes (as mentioned in the review), but no repeat jokes. I think the "Word" special coming up next year (which is actually older material than this) may contain material used in the show, though.

Actually, most touring comedians usually are doing new (ish) material. It didn't used to be that way, but I think for the most part it's the case these days. Louie is definitely setting the bar by having a new hour each year, though. Most comedians tour behind a new album/special and only have one every few years.

The whole "Jisanthepuss" bit is worth $5 on it's own. Kudos to Louie for doing this. I never thought when I saw this material in July that he would have it available so fast. I figured we'd get "Word" first and then have to wait another year or two for this special.

Weird that you can only stream it twice, though. The download limit I can understand, but limiting the streaming doesn't really make sense to me. Either way, I only needed the one download. It's already on my computer and my iPhone (thanks for the mp4 format!)

I saw Louie live when he was touring this material, and it was easily a 90 minute set, with Todd Barry doing a half hour to open. So, yeah we got our money's worth.

"He drinks and bowls and beats his wife ALABAMA MAYUN!"

God is gonna kick your ass, you infidelic pagan scum.

Did you even read the article before going in to full-on snark mode?

I was ready to hate this episode, and somehow it got me. I hate most musicals, and while I was irritated by the songs, the reason for each one was well-done. Also, the end made me cry. Fuck you, Community, for making me like your musical episode.

"Don't drive while listening to (insert comedy bit/comedian here) or you might run off the road" is one of the most overused phrases ever when talking about comedy. This is at least the 3rd publication where I have seen a critic use this exact phrase.

I thought it was a huge step up from My Weakness is Strong. "I want all the ham" alone was enough to seal that deal.

So you got bored by the 2nd track because it's almost exactly like the type of hip-hop you like based on the description you gave? Fuck off, troll. And if you're just a curmudgeon you can still fuck off.

Ditto. So many great lines in that one. "We need to tone it down a bit, runnin' round town spending time like it's counterfeit" and "We did this in remembrance of faces from the past we no longer have an image of". Classic fucking track. Probably my favorite. The run of Kool On>The OtherSide>Stomp is really hard to

Just like everyone will probably forget about undun by the time they compile their "year-end" lists next year, even though it has already revealed itself to be one of the best albums of the year so far. I would be surprised to see it crack the top 10 on anyone's list next year.

Also: gay panic and sisyphean.
