@avclub-bca3531762af8a993c4f60c48fd5e33b:disqus The first CD I ever bought was Van Cliburn playing the Tchaikovsky piano concerto no. 1, back around 1994. But I think there was already a lot of non-classical music on CD by then.

Wax cylinders FTW.

I subscribe to Hulu Plus just for the Criterion Collection- it's pretty reasonable, I think $7.99 a month. I figure that's a lot less than buying even one of their DVDs. (Admittedly, they don't have the special features, but I can live with that to see the films).

I save time by just reading the tympany parts. It's mostly rests, so it's pretty relaxing.

I so wish I could do that in real life… would be tough to change the piano rolls while driving, though.

@avclub-eee10e3b1f440f8e5dde6138c35e4a4b:disqus The Woman in White is a favorite of mine. By all means, everybody read it! ( The Moonstone is also excellent, and… pretty much anything else by Collins, really).

Indeed. I have an allergy to rom-coms and was therefore not a huge fan of her films, but her essays are really funny. She was a classy lady, and very sharp. Probably would have been very fun to know her.

It's a Wonderful Life is a surprisingly dark, dark film. Every time I watch it again (every few years), I think "They show this at Christmas ??"
