Voyager really suffers for the lack of continuity. It has the best premise of all the Star Trek series IMO, but after the Starfleet-Maquis-conflict well ran dry, the stories became so generic and insular. A season-long "Year of Hell" arc would have been brilliant.

I agree. The two-hour block was nice, mindless midweek entertainment.
It's not necessarily as straightforward as that. There can be double eliminations, challenges for eliminated contestants with the winner returning, etc.
