I think this has most if not all the ingredients of a show that I'll watch, want to like, and finally angst at Syfy and/or the writing team having mishandled…
…huh. Maybe you have to be American to handle it?
Reading the Vanity Fair profile linked to in the review, and man, Nic Pizzolatto seems kind of insufferable. Trotting out banalities like revelations: "A sad, frustrated man is going to look at a tree in a field in a much different way than a happy man. If you recognize everything’s point of view, everything starts…
Especially since Fukunaga's direction really made up for the deficiencies in Pizzollato's writing in season 1.
I'm getting so many brilliant mental images from the casting discussions on this thread. I'll always think of David Lynch for Mr. Wednesday now.
I share your dislike of Hannibal's dreaminess. I like the show well enough, but I feel it relies on atmosphere to cover up narrative shortcomings in a way that keeps me from really getting into it.
Yeah — I never seen ASoIaF's pacing as particularly remarkable, but compared to what GoT is without it, it's quite good.
I like scrambled eggs in the evenings too. Those and hash browns — just put some sriracha sauce on 'em and it's dinner.
Reminds me of the John Cena prank call which, stupid as it is, never fails to make me laugh: https://www.youtube.com/wat…
It's partly that, I think — I suspect Clare's ugliness is what made Victor abandon him to begin with for another, fresher and more attractive corpse in Proteus — and perhaps that Victor gets better at the task the more often he does it.
I love Perlman's enthusiasm for the series, and I really do hope something comes of this.
came home from a trip to Toronto earlier this week with Timbits in my bag, which I will enjoy now
Well, it may not need to be from day one — thinking of Farscape, which sort of stumbled into a larger arc and managed to make it work — but yeah, writers not knowing the endgame early on definitely put a damper on BSG for me. (The incredibly labored acting and storytelling didn't help either.) X-Files might have ended…
“…there’s thousands of women who love Cersei despite her obvious flaws.” Book Cersei? Really? One of the aspects in which I prefer Game of Thrones to A Song of Ice and Fire is Cersei’s characterization. I have a hard time imagining anyone liking the book version of that character.
Eh, fair enough. Never heard the podcast or saw the movie. I guess I just really want to read more Tom Bissell.
It strikes me that Community might make an great candidate for a Disaster Artist–type tell-all down the line. It'd definitely be a book I'd want to read.
"Filed Under: Film, Owen Wilson, Wow!"
Nice to see the Strike Back guys with new gigs. (Though I'll admit I have a few doubts about Sullivan Stapleton's ability to pull off the Blindspot role…or most any role that requires a reliable American accent not produced by drawling or slurring…)
Upvoted for "faux-ksy" in particular
