Serious(ish) question: hadn't we as a society just moved Ben Affleck ahead of Matt Damon, what with the directorial success Affleck has enjoyed and the fact that Damon is firmly entrenched in the Box Office Poison stage of his career?  And yet the default reaction to everything Affleck does is to say he sucks.

This is AV Club.  Pretentious and/or asshole is implied.

Narp?

For clarification: are Jane Austen 1 and Jane Austen 2 cable networks in the UK?  After that whole Kelly Clarkson ring thing, I'm willing to believe that's it's mandated viewing, and all Brits have to send annual Jane Austen book reports to Parliament or else they aren't allowed to buy jellied eels for a year.

My embarrassing story corner contribution, as someone with parents who are still together and never (to my knowledge) had affairs:

No, it offends me as a comedian.

In the commentaries, Samm Levine says that was his favorite line of the show.  It would be on my shortlist too.

"I don't even know how you get one girl. How does anyone get two?"

But that's the only good one of those.  Why would you want to forget that one?

He was older.  I think he had already graduated from high school at the time, unlike Seth Rogan, who had to go to school on the set with the Geeks.

Good points.  I guess I just assumed it would still fit, given that other platinum albums (hey, remember platinum albums?) made the list.  These arbitrary lists need rules, man!

600 comments and no mention of the Violent Femmes' debut?  For shame, AV Club!

You completely ignored my point: that racism might be based upon power, but offense is not.  The textbook definition of racism is not the same as racial discrimination or hate speech   Why do you think Charlie Rangel used a racial slur if not to offend people?

Unless he was head camp counselor, I'm a little confused by "boss" and "shorts" in the same sentence here.

Let's assume for a second that everyone agrees with the power/privilege = racism paradigm you're presenting.  We're not talking about institutional racism, or even racial discrimination (which even your average peace studies professor agrees can be done by members of a non-privileged group).  What you're saying that

Not to take AV Club comments seriously or anything, but I think it's worth pointing out that different people are offended by different things.  My initial thought when I heard about the Riley Cooper fiasco was, he probably hears his teammates use the N-word every single day.  It has no special power to him, and the

Pro bono.  Bam!

@avclub-e57f718840a576abbb40a7d046c4e3b0:disqus I just typed "as police procedurals go, it's pretty good" into my AV Club translator.  This is what I got:

See, I don't get this.  Yes, OUATiM went further with the wink-wink stuff and ended up a little more cartoonish than Desperado.  Desperado is better, but the conclusion to the trilogy is still pretty fun.  And at least it doesn't have Tarantino trying to act.

And for the fact that the Royals and Yankees were legit rivals in the 80's, before they became definitive clubs of the big-market/small-market stratification.
