About 2. I felt he was so over the top in the scene, and not in a good way. Took me out of the film for a minute, without even adressing the fact that we did nit care about the death ray target at all.

There are not many new ideas, indeed. But the new characters are perfect and the actors are great, and that's JJ. I'm really excited to see what Johnson can do with it.

I for one prefer to watch a well made movie than an ambitious terrible one that fails at every ambitious thing it tries.

I completely agree. The first act is amazing, the remake issue starts after that and never really disappear. The Death Star 3.0 being the worst offender.
