BoJack Horseman is another show I caught up on this summer, and it's definitely a close second.
Gah! Now I'll have to reread a book that I've loved since childhood and haven't read in four years (and didn't get to finish) so I can figure out what you're saying.
Maybe I misremember the book's ending, but aside from the fate of the giants and what happened after, I feel like the book was far less bittersweet.
I'm going to assume that Galavant (which I wanted to watch, but just couldn't find the time, I'M SORRY) didn't include a celebratory song about giving your girlfriend a urinary tract infection, so I have to say you're wrong on that one.

One of the more interesting aspects about The BFG is that the ending was changed significantly, but to be more complex, not less.
I love it so much, and I love everything about it, but I especially love Darryl's arc, which is so unexpectedly perfect and meaningful.
I have yet to see The Witches, so all I really know about is that the ending was changed.

Like virtually all Friday Night Lights cast members, Scott Porter's career since his tenure on the show has been nothing short of a disappointment (even if I did think he was one of the weaker actors in the cast).
