I actually liked Zeitgeist, but it's not really best-of-decade list material. It's certainly better than the original MACHINA though. I also really liked the song "The Rose March" from that EP. And before anyone criticizes my love of late-period SP, know that that song was recorded at the request of Pete Townshend.

Another surprisingly underrated 00s pop gem: Nelly Furtado & Timbaland, "Promiscuous." For its brilliant synth-pop hook, and its at best tenuous grasp of what the word "promiscuous" means.

I should also mention it's one of the earliest albums I can think of that really feels like it's sequenced for the mp3 era. It's way overlong, unnecessarily repeats tracks, and doesn't really feel like it has a finished track list. It's perfect for the iP0d era, because you can cut shit and pretty much make the album

Sure 90s pop music sucked (I'm assuming you're talking like, Ace of Base), but 90s rock was actually pretty fantastic; especially on an indie level (GBV, Sebadoh, Archers of Loaf, Superchunk, etc), but even a lot of mainstream stuff was surprisingly great (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, early Weezer). Also, 90s rap was

On the whole, I think this has been a pretty shitty decade for music, at least in the sense that there is so little coming out that I find interesting. I think this decade differs from the 90s in that TV and music seem to have switched places in the public consciousness.

I think what Girl Talk does is cool, but I'm not sure it belongs in canonized lists of the best music of the decade. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, or maybe it's just that I realize that the mash-up album of the decade was clearly The Grey Album.

Wow, I didn't realize I was reading Pitchfork
Nah, I'm just bustin' your chops, AV Club. Major props for not taking the easy way out and making Kid A #1.

Also, it pisses me off because every time I hear people talking about a movie called "Twilight" or "New Moon," I still kind of subconsciously assume it's going to be an Elliott Smith biopic.

I was talking about this with a friend the other night
In 10 years, will Robert Pattinson be a badass serious actor who stars in Martin Scorsese movies? It sounds ridiculous now, but surely no more ridiculous than it would've sounded if you'd said the same thing about DiCaprio circa Titanic.

"Hey Bret and Jemaine, or should I say, Hiphopopotamus and Rhymenoceious, loll. That's their rap names. Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, I know what you mean about weird dreams. Loll? Not sure what that 'loll" is. Me and my GF are looking forward to your lunchtime gig at Potatoholic. Rock on, Kipper."

You know what my daddy used to say?
My Daddy used to say blap blabba dap blabba dabba dabba dap blabba dabba dabba dap dap dap.

If they REALLY wanted to get ill with it
they'd have Jerry throw a "stop laughing, it's not funny" in there.

What I don't understand is why, if it's going to be DVD-only, it's still 43 minutes long, the exact length of a one-hour show plus commercials. If it's not gonna be shown on TV, why not longer? Personally, I'd like to kick back with one five-hour Sunny episode and let the chips fall where they may.

After L/M, I'm gonna go ahead and throw in my hat for Leonard Cohen. Or is that not rock enough? I'm not sure what the parameters are here.

Also, god damnit, why did I spell "sight" wrong? There was some sort of highway hypnosis typing there, because I have no recollection of actually writing that part.

More Smiths rituals
Every New Years Eve, I still listen to "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want," and if possible I make it the last song of the year that I listen to. That's my way of hoping for a better year.

This interview
doesn't feature nearly enough Sports Shouting.

This was definitely a season 1-2 throwback,
not to mention the only episode of the show I think ever that has no scenes in the bar. The gang's apartments are underused, so it's always nice to see them again.
