It doesn't work as unintentional comedy, though. It's trying way too hard to be "self aware" and is awkward as hell but just competent enought that I couldn't laugh at it for being an uncomfortable trainwreck.

Just pointing out that original cast is still alive and still pretty photogenic.

You would think they would ask before they used them. If only to spare themselves the mild shame of the singer having to explain "I wrote this song (that you only kind know the chorus of) to preach against everything you stand for, you Republican moron"

I'm looking at his IMDB here, and I can't wrap my head around the idea that Eszterhas was ever a sought after writer. That is an incredibly cheesy looking filmography for a succesful career.

Agreed. I haven't watched too many movies about comedians (though self-loathing might describe all of them) but that subplot actually sounds like something I haven't seen 800 times.

At least they established that Bill was in his 30s when he was turned and Sookie thought he looked a lot older than that, rather than trying (and hilariously failing) to convince the audience that he's supposed to be frozen at 18 like Angel.

The murdered Merlotte's waitress from season 1, played by what's her name from John Carter? We didn't actually see that but it was strongly implied.

If you have no problem with them riffing good movies, all of the lord of the rings ones are very good.
