Diversity is important. Of course it is. But that doesn't keep Rhimes' shows from being crap. I find it weird that she's trying to high-horse it above a writer of Sherman-Palladino's caliber.

See, that never bothered me. Michael becoming consumed by his obsession to find Walt made for some good TV, and Perrineau did a lot with little (on the page). Things got frustrating, though, when Walt's storyline became increasingly convoluted and fractured, which in turn weakened Michael's storyline.
