Yes, I was treated as a circus sideshow on my visit to China (example conversation had about me: "He is so tall. He is so hairy."), and the beggars all assumed white = American = money, but that doesn't necessarily mean I would always be welcomed to marry into a Chinese family.

HWL, regarding #2, I was very concerned my wife's parents wouldn't accept me. I'm white, Irish descent. Turned out it was no problem. Apparently they were OK with their daughter marrying anyone but a black man.
