The only good reason to have that 'reveal' scene at the end would be if it was going to be an ongoing storyline, which I doubt it is. Otherwise it was just hitting the audience over the head unnecessarily. It really was like they couldn't bear to leave a single idea out of this episode.

    Almost definitely yes.

"…even Bomer looked uncomfortable in a way that made me think it was the actor being uncomfortable and not the character." It never ceases to amaze me how differently people can see the same thing. I didn't see any discomfort there at all; I just saw Neal feeling very sympathetic towards and sorry for his friend,

"This comes up a lot, but it really is asking a lot to buy Matt Bomer as a steely criminal mastermind in these undercover ops." — Really? Because I've never seen this POV stated anywhere else before, so maybe it's just you?  I didn't have trouble buying it at all, but then I now recall you have some ongoing trouble

"I saw no indication of it in anything he said or did. Maybe I missed it?" —- You didn't miss it; it wasn't there. The only reason anyone would have to be suspicious of Neal's behavior would be some of his manipulations in the past, and I wouldn't see Peter in that place at the moment given more recent events. "I think Bomer did a great job of toning down Neal's normal swagger I
honestly felt like he was just not in the mood and I think for Neal
that's about as much grief as you'll probably see." —- I completely agree re. Bomer's acting job in this episode; Neal was definitely significantly toned down in his 'Nealness'. I

"Neal's eagerness to be good was getting on my nerves."  —- He was still trying too hard to be good in this episode for my liking. I like Neal best when he isn't even really trying to be "good", but is putting his energies into getting away with mischief.

But Peter was so freaking hypocritical. How many times has he lied to Neal, or kept stuff from him, to "protect" him? MANY. Peter pulling holier than thou shit with Neal sticks in my craw.
