Completely agree with your whole second paragraph. I was actually really irritated with Peter this episode. A gigantic man-crush is the only thing which could excuse/explain such stupidity on his part.  That whole thing felt very 'plotty' - like, the writers had somewhere they had to get to, so they did what they had…
