I like Taylor OK, but yeah, she doesn't bring a whole ton of comedic value to anything. She's more the straight woman.

Astonishingly, Fantastic Mr. Fox was better than Up. And I wouldn't have believed that was possible.
I actually agree that the Pulp Fiction bit is just sort of there, paving the way for Family Guy and whatnot. Which is ironic, because most Simpsons parodies up to that point, aside from the ones that were lightning-quick nods or homages, were usually extremely clever and illuminating, either in terms of the story…
I swear to God, Bumblebee Man's dialogue in that segment helped me fake enough Spanish to get by when I lived in Mexico.
Another nerd point: Kahless pops up again on TNG as, basically, the Klingon Jesus.
You can just call them "Bourgies" if you like. As in, "BOURGIE SCUM!!!!"
See, all you guys are reducing the story into incredibly vague terms, and thereby shifting the goalposts. It's possible that Keith's theoretical muskrat movie (there's your title!) could be reduced to "man (talking animal) goes on a quest", too. Presumably the muskrat would have a character arc, there would be themes…
The sentient muskrat idea…
…would probably make a brilliant comic in the hands of Grant Morrison. Actually he's probably writing it right now.
For what it's worth…
I thought it was one of the best films I saw at the Toronto Filmfest (it was a weak year). This review is too harsh. It is, as stated, a very witty movie with a lot of great ideas. I guess maybe it feels a little unconventional at the end, because there's no great "hero does battle with villain"…
Also, note that Law's character does technically have the option of not eating the food (even though Leigh's character stops him). It's just that once they decide to keep the dish, his Genuine Game Urge kicks in.
Yes, I agree. One of Cronenberg's points is how restrictive gameplay can be, despite the promise of interacting with a virtual world as you see fit, and then he goes on to apply this principle to the real world, with its supposed "free will". It's actually very clever.
Yeah, exactly. I'm jazzed for the movie, but you'd think the final volume of the actual comic arriving this year would at least rate a mention.
Season Three
I think the reason this season is pegged as so lousy is because it opens with a spate of crummy episodes, but later on I think there are some that are as good as any others the show produced (including the two slotted for next week). There's even the one episode where they actually wear space suits. And…
Too Kind
I've seen this movie. It's pleasant. Genial. Watchable. But that's all it is. Even the performances, which are very good across the board, are in service of hollow, superficial characters who are utterly predictable. Seriously: the only even slightly surprising thing in this movie is Kendrick turning out not…
I thought Fables, based on the first two trades at least, was pretty overrated. I can see people enjoying it, though the hamfisted dialogue grated on me too much to continue, but it's fun pulp at best.
Sorry, but a list that includes The New Frontier really should have had space for Scott Pilgrim. Hell, despite my love for Alan Moore, I really think it should have bumped Promethea.
Yeah, I'm quite sure it IS "Wayland" Smithers (unless they've changed it in recent seasons), regardless of what Wikipedia says. Mr Burns pronounces the "D" very clearly a few times. And "Wayland" is a real name. CHECK YOUR FACTS ONION AV CLUB!!!!
And yeah, the guy who defended Ackroyd and Ramis is bang-on. Genevieve has apparently totally missed the point and thought that their exposition was supposed to be taken seriously, when in fact it's really just insane, nerdy rambling (all the funnier since apparently Ackroyd genuinely believes in this stuff, though he…
Aaaaaaaand you're wrong.
I did see Ghostbusters as a kid, but only once, then once again as an adult, so it's hardly the kind of movie I've committed to memory or taken to heart as a beloved favourite. I didn't even remember that scene in the jail, but the clip up there, which Genevieve posted to show how supposedly…
Improvement?
Aside from the generally solid pilot, and last weeks atrocious episode, this show has been on an upward curve for its entire existence. It's still got a hardcore case of the stupids (which is weird, because it CAN be pretty smart at times) and it seems to be ignoring some of its own most potentially…
