I had MRI (and a worthless CT scan at emergency room) but no spinal tap. The MRI showed four lesions, but the question I have still is: How many lesions do you have? I.e., what do normal people have? The doc couldn't tell me, because normal people don't get MRI's.

I'm with you. Annie, maybe. I had loss of vision in right eye last year (I also live in Texas: Houston) and went through the ophtalmologist/neuro-otphalmologist/neurologist circuit. They can't diagnose based on a single event, though, so I'm in limbo until something else happens, and of course I'm paranoid that every

No need to explain to me. There's plenty of stuff I plan to get to ahead of Richard Ford's latest book. I went through a phase of reading him, over 20 years ago. I got old and now I can't bear his phony poses as eloquent bard of the middle class. He settled into that pose after trying on various others; in each of his

I don't think the novels are that similar. Freedom was pretty much straight realism, or aspired to be, while The Corrections had an edge of surrealism at its core (if you can have an edge at a core.) There's a hint of Delillo/Pynchon in The Corrections (I'm thinking mainly of the echo chamber of coincidences that

Ditto i hate to be that guy.  Freedom was just awful. The characters were cartoons, especially the snuff-dipping guy who dipped snuff for no reason. (I dip snuff, but I'm not a literary character—well, sort of—and anyway, I have my reasons.) I was pretty blown away by The Corrections when I read it in spring of 2002

Buffet is one of those guys whose music got overshadowed by his "brand" and his fan-base. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve a bit of derision for encouraging that parrot-head stuff, but if you can put all that out of your mind and listen to some of the earlier music, you might find that he was actually pretty good and

I'll stay out of the rankings generally but would probably put "Brilliant Disguise" as my first choice. As others have noted, "Tunnel of Love" is a great album, though the 80's production has dated it more than a lot of his other stuff.
