As flawed as this show is (and I agree with you completely that it is pompous and arrogant and so many other things that aren't exactly exceptional), True Blood is definitely the shittier HBO show.

The quality of a lot of produced/recorded music today is sorely lacking.  There is some truth in this study.  Google "loudness war" and you will find plenty of evidence.  (I'll save us the trouble of myself trying to explain it to you [poorly].)
