You're right, I think the discussion about Girls itself has gotten way blown out of proportion, but I think it can be valuable in that it broaches some much needed topics for discussion.  Gender roles for one, discussing both the continued struggles of women, as well as the growing identity crisis of men who I think

Well, not necessarily.  A lot of them sacrifice quite a bit.  Take me for example.  I've made several features, and each cost me quite a bit of my own savings.  My last feature documentary saw my bank account drop below triple digits before it was all said and done.  Yet we take the risk in the hopes that we'll get

I think you make a good point.  Again, I'm talking more about what "Girls" is perceived to be, than what it really is, based on motives which I tried to explain or contextualize.  The point you make raises another issue with why many of the criticisms against "Girls" and "Tiny Furniture" have been unfair…because they

An excellent point.  I didn't want to deviate too much from my original post, but your comment reflects a major problem, which is all this talk about authenticity, which itself has become fraught with problems as well…what is it, who has it?  A prime example are the much discussed "hipsters," who seemingly strive for

So I've spent considered time reading about all this, and thinking about it, and my impression is that the negative reaction in certain circles is (forgive my sounding Marxist) a reflection of good ole fashioned class division.

La, la, la, I'm not listening.  Breaking Bad will be on for five more season.  La, la, la, can't hear you!

Remember when Hugh Laurie was on Blackadder, and he was funny?  Neither do I.

Hmmmm, this may be a stretch, but the impression I get from this article is that, maybe, just maybe, when you've got a 200 million dollar effects heavy picture, you should, possibly consider hiring a director with, idunno, experience or something working on such a picture.  But that's just me.

Considering Ray Liotta went on to have his brains eaten by Anthony Hopkins, I'd say all in all Henry Hill made off pretty well in life.
