The ending made me somewhat sad—[spoilers, obviously] Babette had a chance to escape, but she turned it down to make this amazing meal, and whether the people of the town enjoyed it or not isn't really important to her. It was a culminating act, and now no one has much to look forward to. The only problem with the

Then I hope you enjoy re-watching it… IN HELL!

@avclub-ef062084a1c4a3584af1d4f8e514ea50:disqus : I completely disagree and don't even know how you could type such an insensitive comment. Just go die already.
[Runs into bedroom, slams door, flops onto bed after putting on Richard Marx, and sobs]

Whether a song is brilliant or a sappy piece of dreck has no bearing on people being justified in liking it. You can adore songs that you know are derivative pieces of cheese.
That said, I agree with Nanjiani on this one. But then I like pretty much everything the GoGos ever put on vinyl, so…no throwing rocks in this

The only one of these books that I've read is Red Handed, and I agree with the review above—very intriguing and not like any other graphic novel I've ever read. Each chapter/story does a great job of pulling the reader deeper and deeper into the world of this strange town.

Someone who's a big fan of genre fiction and who reads everything told me she thought Night Film was one of the best books of the year.
That said, I'm a little leery of "mainstream literature" authors who put on a fedora and write crime or horror. Can't say I care for Benjamin Black's books.

Known as "the Busterii" in classical literature.

Obviously, he's Hispanic. His name is "Jesus," for crying out loud.

Normalicious.

@avclub-500e75a036dc2d7d2fec5da1b71d36cc:disqus The Hebrews picked up circumcision rituals from the Egyptians during their captivity in Egypt. The Egyptians got it from sub-Saharan African rite-of-passage ceremonies (differentiating uncircumcised boys from circumcised men) which are still in practice. Your historic

Whenever I hear screed like this, it makes me think, "Wow, those Jews really are impressively hard-working and accomplished!"

On paper it's no crazier than Mormonism, really, but Mormons tend to be a lot nicer.

I heard that he refused to accept money that was offered to him for the Watchmen film (but Gibbons accepted his share). I KNOW Moore turned down a ton of money for the Before Watchmen comics. Did I hear wrong? I must be, because a lot of AVC commentors are deriding him for doing the exact opposite of what I heard.

Teens? Does he still have a fanatic teen following? Has his following gotten older but stayed loyal, and now they're an army of late-20-early-30-somethings who turn out for his debuts? I know middle-aged people who like him but even they would prefer waiting to watch his movies via cable on-demand or something.

@avclub-884c4beddd8c98bb3b016bdfcc1bcdf8:disqus That image of the Joker glaring at the reader from behind bars, with that enormous smile of his face, is one of the most terrifying graphics from comics' golden age. It's the essence of the character and several interpretations in comics, tv and film have returned to it.

I have to say that, for something that was done over four decades ago, the TV show is still very entertaining. I used to think West was a clueless, hammy leading-man wannabe, but re-watching the show has made it clear that he's completely in on the joke, and playing a (very good) straight man to all the craziness

I adore everything about Julie Newmar's Catwoman, but Kitt made a more convincing master criminal and brought that amazing voice of hers to the part. Speaking of voices, this debate is missing another excellent Catwoman, Adrienne Barbeau.

I suppose the least I can say about Gone Girl is that its better that Dragon Tattoo, and reads much faster, so at least if you hate it you won't have wasted as much time. Really selling it, aren't I? But yeah, Dragon Tattoo plodded—it took me a while to get through it. The movie improved upon the book by streamlining

I liked it, and don't feel bad about it. Solid pacing, good construction, and only the end was unsatisfying. The characters, just about all of them, are awful, repulsive human beings, and that clearly turns a lot of people off on this book, but I've never flipped so quickly through a book where I detested the

The problem for us all is that Sandler's fart jokes and cronyism seem to lead directly to money.
