I recently found my first comment on AVClub, from fall of 2009. I'd read the site for years but I felt the need to say something about Saturday Night Live. So I registered*, said something banal but witty, and pretty much hung around. Disqus has me at 7550 comments (dunno if that included pre-Disqus comments or not).

Except for top-selling CDs aimed at adults with limited interest in music*, CDs were pretty affordable. $15.99 was on the high end. Of course if you were into, say, goth/industrial, a lot of the good stuff was only available on import, and that could get expensive.

That's nightmarish; I can't believed we survived that.

Along that line it's a shame that Chumbawumba's turned into a one-hit wonder punchline, because it's really awesome that an oldschool anarcho-punk, plunderphonic band had a major hit single. That happened in 1997, I doubt that could ever happen again.
