I think the first part of this is wrong; DeVos is toxic on so many things. However, I think Jeb! would have nominated, and a majority of Democrats would have voted for, Michelle Rhee, who too many Democrats inexplicably and disappointingly still love.

None of those policies, as far as I know, originated in DoEd. I'd suggest that the problem isn't in the department, but in the fact that all recent presidents have been horrible on education policy. Not certain how to change that, except for having more educators run for office.
