In retrospect it's funny that The West Wing was apparently set in a world where inflation was a problem.
That would have been a disaster. If that had happened I bet that Levy would have been sent to Mandyville after season 1 and Schiff brought in somehow for season 2.
Considering that a lot of that season seems to have been changed on the fly–they didn't settle on an election winner until it had started, and they had to account for John Spenser's death [*sniff*]–I wouldn't be surprised if it *had* started as a CJ plot and later became a Toby plot.
Bail once [mild spoiler but you'll thank me] Josh Lyman gets demoted/sidelined. [I think that's later in 5 but it's been awhile. Broadly, you're really safe to skip after the first daughter kidnapping arc.] Then skip ahead to the Santos episodes and the last maybe 3 or 4 episodes in 6. Then all of 7, but anything not…
I thought the point of the phone calls was simply that CJ would never betray a journalist; I don't think there was supposed to be anything untoward about the calls beyond their red herring-ness. But it's been awhile since I paid attention to that plot.
Or, maybe people who've spent decades working in THE CAUSE don't want to hear the same simplistic and usually misguided 'criticism' from a 20-year-old armchair activist who will never vote, volunteer, or run for office.
'I also think that sometimes we scare off allies and make them reluctant to even try to champion our causes by pushing back way too hard against what we on the left see as mistakes'

Perfect leadoff track to the most perfect compilation ever put together. They didn't sound like any other band on that comp, but you knew you were going somewhere strange and awesome from the second 'Let's hear some music!' dropped. Sadly I think it's the last song they recorded as Colourbox.
I'm glad O'Neal made it back to write a bit about Colourbox, probably the most underappreciated band of 4ADs glory years. It's a shame the Youngs gave up on music. RIP Steve, condolences Martyn
It was a matter of shtick getting old, with (obviously) Hartman's loss leaving more space for Sanders, and (maybe less obviously) Mike Myers not as engaged during his half-season as he had been previously.
Untrue. He was electrifying in Manhunter.
Emily Lloyd would have been a disaster as Tank Girl. I thought it was a pretty disappointing film, but not because of Petty; she was absolutely perfect for the role.
I know that's the case for SNL, although I'm not certain whether that's an informal thing or if performing and writing are contracted seperately. (I presume the latter, otherwise there'd be some issues with the unions?) Whatever the case, I think it's the latter part that Eliott had a problem with: he (like Garofalo)…
The most liberating conversation about religion I've ever had was while I was in Catholic high school meeting with a priest who was our religious guidance counselor. He asked if I had any doubts about my faith, I said yes; he said, 'good. We don't want people who blindly accept faith.' He talked about how God loved…
Too much inspirational bullshit. Once Rachel Platten came in to sing that fucking fight song I was out. I want to watch sports, not treacle.
The issue wasn't quite that they 'just wanted to perform'. Elliott made the point that he wasn't being paid as a writer, and so he expected to be a performer only.

My god I don't remember that one at all. Did that air?
