I think the Butthole Surfers are the bad guys in the Touch & Go affair. I think their major issue was that Rusk should promoting their stuff more. But so far as I know Rusk has always been seen as a fair label head.

Comment of the day.

GnR were an outlier; they got some college radio play for whatever reason. but for the most part metal on college radio wasn't hair metal or thrash but Black Flag-style sludge (later known as grunge)

I've always thought Dead Kennedys should have been included. If I were the book's editor, I would have pitched a The Embarrassment/Volcano Suns/Big Dipper chapter as an example of the 'college rock' branch of indie.

That can't be his worst play so long as King John exists, but I'm no fan

Ummmm….yeah, that's so lame!

I don't think anyone considers Titus Shakespeare's worst play anymore-–Victorians and lightweights like TS Eliot hated it because they missed its dark humor and instead saw it as a dour gorefest. If anything its racial and sexual dynamics alone make it one of Shakespeare's best.

I don't think they tell the same story at all. Arnold's is memoirish and essentially about grunge. Azzerad is essentially a biographer, and while he does fall into the 'indie rock as typology of grunge' thinking a bit, he is more interested in the local contexts of each individual band.

Indeed the Modern Language Association has already said that they will issue a strongly-worded essay in support of Ke$ha at next year's conference.

Plus you have to throw in some 'umm's because, from evidence of his press conference this morning, apparently he hasn't worked on that tic despite 7 years of presidentin'.

I'm with you. Jerry's final standup act was a great close to the series. If I have a problem with it is that they should have gotten to the trial quicker and spent more time on it; before the gang is arrested it's not very good.

Yeah, if someone's being underutilized it's Britt Lower, not Eric Andre. I wouldn't be shocked if it turned out that Lower filmed all of her parts for this season in one day.

Jerome!

After I uploaded 'Hot Thang' to YouTube Dr. Fink knocked me unconscious and removed one of my kidneys.

Yeah but he made an enormous pile of money with Purple Rain and has never again had to worry about commercial considerations.

Threesome does feature Stephen Baldwin before he found Jesus, so it's worth watching if only for the irony.

What Yoffe brought to the column was a Victorian conception of female sexuality. I think she failed dead away in her final column. Good riddance.

IMDB saved my marriage!

Yeah but I'm sure the reissues will be on colored vinyl. That's cool, right?

Plus the music distributor is not coming to your house to take the CD when they lose the rights to the music.
