I knew someone was going to use that against me…

"Doesn't take a genius to put all that together."

Enjoying Vera Blue. Mended and Hold were standouts. I'll definitely have to give her some more listens.

I appreciate the level of detail here.

It's worse than that, though. These statues are meant to be reminders to certain groups to "know their place." Their entire purpose is to be a slap in the face to blacks and minorities, and anyone who says otherwise is utterly full of shit.

I think you're pretty fair to the film. I'm one of the few people (on the internet, at least) who found the Martha scene to be effective. I'm curious to see the longer cut, which I've heard pretty good things about.

I don't know Vera Blue, I don't think. I'll check her out!

Hmm, let's see…

What you call textbook thriller plotting, I call contrived. As you mentioned, Gus becomes almost superhuman in that scene. Which is cool! Gus was a badass villain, and I like how formidable he was. But that just makes it all the more disappointing when he falls for such a hairbrained scheme in the finale - he's

A-freaking-men. I sort of get why it doesn't get as much buzz as other prestige shows - there's no juicy hook, or angle for potential thinkpieces - but as a meat-and-potatoes drama it's pretty much in its own league. The Americans is the only current show I can think of that belongs in the same category,

Definitely agreed about Game of Thrones on all counts.

That's my hope, as well. Really looking forward to the final season, but I wish it was sticking around. For my money, there are very few shows out there for grownups right now that can match it.

I quit a few seasons back, but that definitely appeared to be their strategy. Multiple episodes in a row with characters wandering aimlessly or staying in place, and then something "epic" happens that's supposed to make you forgive and forget all the wheel-spinning. This was also Breaking Bad's preferred mode of

I liked them! Really enjoyed Maggie Rogers' EP, particularly Dog Years. Luna Shadows didn't stand out for me quite as much, but definitely wasn't bad.

And then supposedly left a bunch of his team's names out of the credits, or at least tried to before being threatened with lawsuits. Also, Sausage Party was an extremely bad movie.

Ha, not saying you're wrong. Ignatiy does seem to be interested in the more esoteric aspects of filmmaking more than most moviegoers. To be fair, though, he discusses theme here as much as the technical aspects.

Not a film, but Bloodline sort of delves into these waters. It's got a ton of atmosphere, and is a pretty great show in general.

He was also excellent in Remember Me, an underrated and affecting little melodrama.

Eh, I'd say the context matters. It sounds like the director plays with mundanity in potentially interesting ways.

Ha, I'm a fan of Ralph, as well, but I'm not familiar with the other two artists. Thanks, I'll definitely check them out!
