…Probably the one who didn't sexually assault three people.

Having an AOL account - something I share in common with Mike Pence. I'll let you decide if that bolsters or damages my credibility.

I wouldn't go as far as "lifeless," but it's certainly less distinctive than Lorde's usual output. It's an enjoyable listen, but I could see it being on half a dozen other modern pop artists' records and fitting just as well.

I think she will be at some point. I get the sense that to some degree she's still finding her sound. There's not much of a sonic connection between much of the EP and 'Night Time, My Time,' and even the EP itself is kind of all over the map, with plaintive acoustic ballads sitting alongside upbeat '80s-indebted

After listening to that again I get the comparison. I still think calling 1989 "basically a Sky Ferreira record" is taking things too far. It's still very much recognizably a Taylor Swift record, for better and worse. I would also take a less cynical view of it than you. Swift has always been fairly open about her

That…seems like a stretch. Sky Ferreira is not exactly known for her upbeat, anthemic sound - especially if we're talking about her only full-length album at this point, which has an almost scuzzy, lo-fi vibe to it. If you're strictly talking "Everything Is Embarrassing," then I can sort of see it, but even that

You're thinking of the Cardigans.

Out of curiosity, what artists do you see aping Sky Ferreira? I like her a lot, but her sound is pretty eclectic, and I can't immediately think of someone with mainstream success who sounds like her. Charli XCX maybe?

Everything you said is extremely accurate, haha. I guess on my personal priority list I would just have the unambitious scripts as Marvel's number one sin, with their obsession with franchising coming in at number two. And to be fair, I don't think those things are unrelated. I would say the by-the-numbers stories

I didn't see the predictable structure as a plus. To me it showed that the film, despite appearances, really wasn't all that interested in doing anything new; sort of like how Guardians of the Galaxy initially appears to be unconventional, what with the talking raccoon and tree-creature, but in reality is very much

Jacinda Barrett definitely had some difficulty with the accent in Bloodline, but her performance was still quite good overall.

Ah, well I can't argue with your assessment of its virtues, as those are some of the very reasons I love the film myself. My argument in favor of it being included in the "adult" camp is more that the film features a certain degree of wit and sophistication to the dialogue and storytelling that's, IMO, beyond the

They're quite varied, I agree, but I also think they're examples of superhero films with a certain degree of respect for the audience's intelligence and for the craft in general. None of them fit the standard "quip/action scene/quip action scene" model that's been adopted by the vast majority of modern comic book

Winter Soldier is another fitting example, but I did mean the first Captain America. I think it's the better film overall, especially in terms of sticking the landing, although there are elements of Winter Soldier (most of the action scenes, for example) that I think work better than similar elements in the original.

I don't disagree with that, in theory. But I would argue Dredd isn't a successful example of a movie overcoming or doing something interesting with that structure. I feel like every other shot was of a bullet entering someone's skull in slow-motion.

Yeah, but in a good way!

I would love to see more adult superhero movies. Films like Watchmen, Hancock, Ang Lee's Hulk, Captain America: The First Avenger, Nolan's Batman trilogy - these are all films that have more than an audience of teenage boys in mind. I agree that the rating is irrelevant.

See: the first 10 minutes of "Up."

Gotta side with AV Club on this one. Dredd felt way more like a video game than a movie.

Yep, just don't let those superheroes cuss. Torture and violently maim as many henchmen as they want, but God help them if they drop an F-bomb.
