Love that album. "La La Lie" is frigging glorious. Some of the best pop songwriting of the year for sure.

Really digging "Black Honey" from Thrice, a band I hadn't listened to in quite a while. Also, there were a lot of great songs on the Frightened Rabbit album. "Get Out" was a highlight for me.

Ha, I felt a little more charitably toward Damage than you did, but agreed, it's definitely not their most memorable album. Integrity Blues doesn't all come together seamlessly, but man are those high points awesome. The final stretch from You Are Free to Pol Roger is golden.

Definitely have to disagree with you there. I really enjoy EWBAITE, but for me it doesn't really take off until The British Are Coming, which leaves five fairly forgettable songs to start off the album. Da Vinci, Go Away, and Foolish Father are fantastic, and I like the big instrumental finish, but that's not enough

Criminal lack of Weezer. Seriously, the White Album is so much better than their previous "comeback" album Everything Will Be Alright in the End. It's great from start to finish, chock full of some of the best power pop in recent memory.

I didn't think it was a masterpiece, but it's still one of the most enjoyable films I've seen this year. Agree with you about the clichés, but not the dialogue, which was one of the film's biggest strengths, IMO.

I always thought season 3 was stronger than many made it out to be. It had its low points, certainly, but I thought the writing was fairly consistent overall, and there were some pretty high highs, too. I'm an Arrow apologist in general, though. I think it's the best of the current crop of superhero shows by a

Did that scene involve live action? If so, I agree, it was bad.

Agreed! That probably would've been my second pick. I also love the ending scene, which was unassuming and sweet and a perfect little character moment, which was especially nice after the busyness of the climax.

The review was a little longer than normal, but it didn't feel rambly to me.

Agreed on Midnight Special. That and Arrival had my two favorite endings of the year.

They really were a delightful couple, and that was not something I saw coming.

There are half a dozen scenes I'd pick from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a movie that I feel really hasn't gotten its due. It's charming and witty and whimsical without being cutesy, and it has four of the most lovable characters to be found onscreen this year. If I had to narrow it down to one, I'd go

I like Civil War quite a bit, especially in relation to Marvel's other properties, but the main weakness was definitely the low stakes. Someone probably should've died in that movie. Or, failing that, the emotional stakes should've been heightened considerably. The airport scene was a ton of fun, but it went on way

I wasn't a fan of Sausage Party overall, but the, ahem, climactic scene, was a friggin' riot. Definitely beats the earlier Saving Private Ryan riff for me.

I actually thought the action in general was quite well-choreographed in Batman v Superman, which was surprising considering the sluggishness of Man of Steel 's setpieces.

Hey, Selfie was great, too! Don't judge a work by its (awful) title.

He takes it off I believe around the halfway mark, and is a genuinely compelling presence for the entire film. Even if you're not big on Star Wars, I think it's well worth seeing for the new characters.

She was also very good in That Awkward Moment, a bromantic comedy that was ironically upstaged by the female co-leads. She and MacKenzie Davis gave the two best performances of the film. (The guys weren't bad either, though, and the movie itself is fairly likable.)
