Apocalypse '91 is a bloated piece of shit, if we're being honest.

I think it means shoving your tongue into a girl's asshole. Not sure though.

Nope. Low End Theory.

Of course. That's a major theme of the movie.

A Grin without a Cat more accurately reflects how Marker had given up on revolution. They were basically just two different cliques or semi-cliques. In the 70s and early 80s Rivette made plenty of films that flouted conventional narrative - unlike Truffaut, Rohmer, or Chabrol - in a sense decamping from the so-called Right Bank (for awhile, at least).

That is true today, but Godard was definitely associated with the Right Bank (who were all writers for Cahiers du Cinema). He only spelled it "Chris.Marker" in his early films.

Unfortunately it's impossible  to find most of his films on region 1 DVD. I don't know where you live, but hopefully it's somewhere where some art-house theater will show a retrospective of some of his more obscure stuff.

That's the story, but with Chris Marker - who really knows?

Those three films are great, and I agree that it trivializes Marker's achievements to emphasize that "La jetee" - a truly innovative film - influenced a much more conventional (though entertaining, in a crackerjack way) film by Terry Gilliam.

He once credited himself in an early film as "Chris and Magic Marker."

He was very old, so he had to go sometime. Nevertheless cinema has lost one of its giants. I've seen nearly all of his films, and many of them were truly great.
