You've done a man's work, Penguin.

You're looking for "personal motivation" in a 'Beverly Hills Cop' sequel? How about that paycheck, mbs? I'm not saying I can't enjoy that kind of movie, but I'm not grading it against the same rubric as say, 'The Departed'.

'Lethal Weapon' was a paint by numbers formula flick from start to finish (and I won't go into how all buddy cop movies are really just male-oriented Romantic Comedies with the orgasms externalized as explosions). It wasn't a typical buddy cop movie, but '48 Hours' set the template for all those 80's and 90's team

That line I hate from every episode of SVU: "Do you have children, detective fill-in-the-blank?" I am so tired of parenthood—which is something any irresponsible sexually active moron is capable of—being used as a membership ticket into the world of emotional understanding.

'Loose Cannons' is a truily awful movie—but it reminded me of the hilarious turn by Alan Arkin as a police chief trying really hard to get into the spirit of meanness that people expect of him.

We'll always have 'Angel Heart'
wherein Satan hires an amnesiac detective to locate himself, and in the process he fucks and murders his own daughter. Is that not an instance of being too close to a case?

I don't care if that maniac did kill one of our own, I think we're done here.

It actually bothers me that Scott came out in favor of Deckard's being a relicant because it doesn't make it a richer experience that he is a replicant or that he isn't, but that it could play either way. The film is not a puzzle to solve. It's like that optical illusion where sometimes you're looking at a vase and

If it's really about issue eps of classic sitcoms only, then it will suck. I can only hope it's about episodes of any TV show that made a lasting mark on television history (like the the episode of The Cosby Show where the cast lip synchs to Ray Charles 'Night Time is the Right Time' or the Thanksgiving episode of

I nominate 'Evan', the greatest (and most representative) episode of 'Miami Vice'.

'One Thing Leads to Another' is rarely acknowledged as the Post Punk White boy Funk masterpiece that it is. Right up there with early INXS and Talking Heads.

I don't know if 'The Public Eye' is a cult film or a MYOF film, but it is a good film.

Soundesign—I believe that was the brand Odd Lots carried in the 80's. Later on, it was JVC.

Alison,…I know this thread is killing you…

There are worse things she could do…

Shawkat—superpower? The ability to communicate with and control freckles.

"porking lamb" is not, strictly speaking, kosher.

A difference of opinion is not a character flaw. But it does illustrate one of my principles about posting (and party conversation), which is if the conversation turns to a discussion of something one does not like, one should leave it alone, unless the discussion is specifically about liking or not liking that thing.

Wait—you didn't like 'Monkeyshines'? I love 'Monkeyshines'.

It's been a while since Hollywood did a solid "hordes of little beasties" movie like 'Gremlins' or 'Critters'. That was a real trend in the 80's, but now that we have the technology to not have to rely solely on puppets, it could be quite astonishing (like the marvelous Barbie assault in Joe Dante's 'Small Soldiers').
