ugh, I hope you find anything other than Fables to go to… that comic has to be the most extreme example ( at least personally) of a comic losing it's appeal almost instantly. I was into it up until the great war arc, it just got so self congratulatory and, frankly, self righteous. I don't know what else is happening…
Childrens fiction
Nearly all of the books I read come from the library, so at 19 when I started to branch into his more obscure stuff I would find myself scouring the children's section, often, let's call it "on drugs", (reverse euphemism bitches) feeling kinda creepy.
He's penning a Doctor Who? That could be amazing. If you're a fan of Douglas Adams you should pick up "Anansi Boys", of all his work it owes the largest debt to Adams. And you really don't have to read American Gods first.

I always thought the end of the book, with the protagonist picking the flower, less a sign of optimism and hope, and more a nod to the irony of a drug rehab center helping produce the drug that sent the patients there. and perhaps more importantly, showing how even after multiple identity "rewrites" once…
