Does StarShip Troopers really have the cache to bring in a big, new audience? It seems like anyone who remembers the old one at this point won't want to see it ruined with a remake and the American public won't buy into a new action movie unless it's an established property, like, say, Transformers.

My (white) in-laws really want to see it too. I love them, but they have terrible taste in movies.  Last time we were supposed to watch a movie at their place it was a choice between The Smurfs and Open Season 3. Also, they are not children.

I realize that producers often have a large fund raising role. But I was under the impression-and I could very well be wrong-that often times the producer has, if not a total creative role, at least a substantial one.
