There's no reason to think that Eric would have voted against the alliance if Malcolm kept the second idol hidden.  In fact, I think it's pretty safe to assume that he would have done whatever his alliance told him to do, if it weren't for the craziness of that tribal confusing him.

I'm getting a little tired of every episode having another "Let's throw another problem into the marriage" plot.  Though at least this time, they didn't end the episode with them proclaiming their everlasting love for each other, so perhaps that means next week's episode won't have a new domestic problem.
