It was either that or watching teams wait in line for water or fix a bike.  The producers probably thought that the racers would chat up the locals and we'd get a touching "connection" moment, or someone would loose it because they were waiting so long and there would be an "ugly American" incident.  No such luck.

It's wonderful, but it's a repeat.
