The last 40 minutes of LoTR (the last 200 pages bookwise) was enjoyable for me.  Joseph Campbell would call it a totally necessary part of the mythic quest.

I remember Descent being marketed heavily in the run up to this finale.  The commercials were endless and there was even a billboard in my town (at the time pretty rural Delaware).  Was that unique to Descent or am I just blanking on other TNG marketing?
