There’s a lot of cultural miseducation in the South that unfortunately has found its way north and west too.

Let’s not forget the lovely part of the essay where she implies autistic people (who make up a slightly disproportionate amount of the trans community) are making mistakes transitioning because they aren’t competent to make their own decisions. Speaking in my capacity as an autistic person, fuck that.
Hah! We got the same talk! It’s like they pay lip service to the idea of showering just to absolve themselves of complaints of stinky teens.
I might actually enjoy watching that version.
That was the pitch of the story line though, that his talent was so great (and he had such good “chemistry” with the lead, lol) that he was able to replace the star during rehearsal, This was of course a monumental plot point that takes up approximately 3 minutes of the film and also ignores that Manero’s dancing…
This sort of depends. I watch a lot of action movies that have a conservative message that I think is wrong, or maybe even dangerous. But I can also enjoy a well put together action scene and mostly ignore that stuff.
But sometimes the real world intrudes on my ability to enjoy some dumb action film. I watched the…
I think it’s less about the general depiction of the South than the black characters. Mammy has some redeeming qualities, but is still happy to stay on the plantation. Pork and Prissy are very racist depictions of blacks, and so much of what they do is played for laughs.
Rhett wasn’t a Klansman because he wasn’t trusted by the Klan members due to the fact that he was friends with the occupying Northern officers. It was the sainted Ashley Wilkes (among others) who was the Klansman. Rhett set it up that Belle Watling (the madame) was the alibi for all the local Klan members, which…
I always appreciate game that allow for little tweaks in gameplay that can help players, like turning off blood (how I play Assassin’s Creed games). I know it’s not always possible or appropriate, but it’s appreciated when it happens.
Problem was Lincoln was killed before any of that was even an idea. By the time he was replaced by the openly racist and hostile Johnson, it was too late.
Definitely, but she’s still the only adult in the room for most of the movie. In spite of starting with a really racist base, probably inherited by Margaret Mitchell - haven’t read the book - her character was the only mature one for, god, probably the entire running time.
It’s also hilarious that we see like 5 minutes tops of “Goddess” but interminable scenes from “Satan’s Alley,” and yes I am ashamed I know the names of both shows without even looking them up.
The issue with the whole “people who menstruate” thing is that JK went out of her way to post an article that used the term. The article was specifically about people getting access to menstrual products and included a discussion about gender non-conforming individuals among others. So she was taking issue not with a…
The Broadway show in “Staying Alive” is worse. Actually, that whole movie is worse than “Showgirls”. At least the Vegas show in “Showgirls” delivers on what a Vegas show is supposed to deliver on. I don’t know what the hell that Broadway show in “Staying Alive” is supposed to be. Good lord that’s a bad movie.
Paul Reubens and the late Fred Willard nod, knowingly.
I think so long you approach others from a place of respect you’re good. And, acknowledge your lack of knowledge if that’s the case in a situation. I’m a weird bunch all on my own and I know many others, friends and otherwise. In general, save for the odd militant, when you’re kind and respectful people don’t mind if…
“People who menstruate” is a bit of an over reach and pretending it is otherwise is absurd.
First off, many people are born with indistinguishable or even both sets of genitals, so it has never been a matter of binary boy/girl. Accepting that someone’s brain chemistry does not match their physical characteristics is a good start.
Yeah, they were syndicated later in the UK (which is where I’m from!). I was born in the 80s, grew up mostly in the 90s.
