It's so fun when men tell women how to feminist.

I…you…you're talking like there's some sort of entertainment council that sat down and made a decree that the theory is false. Did I miss the memo on everyone agreeing that male gaze just isn't a thing, and never was? I could've sworn I checked my spam folder…

I'm using the definition of "male gaze" as it's commonly applied to entertainment. To wit (via wikipedia):

I guess there's a lot of context at work. For one thing, in neither situation is it, like, a fight, and someone gets punched. They're one-sided scenes of male dominance. One of them is followed by the puncher in question saying, "She had a mouth on her." It's meant to be a laugh line, and it got laughs in the theater

Meet Amanda Waller. She's so stone-cold, she SHOOTS HER OWN HENCHMEN.

How up are you on your Harley Quinn? The character started out being solely defined as the Joker's girlfriend, sure, but it hasn't always been that way, and recent years have seen her given more of her own agency. She hasn't been entirely defined by her relationship to the Joker in a long time.

Yes, because the only two options are "completing her Women's Studies MA at Oberlin" and "objectified sex doll." Way to straw man that argument straight to hell.

Yes, but other than Jonah Hill, all the other guys I mentioned are leading men. A couple are even considered sex symbols.

"Hollywood isn't interested in my average body type"

"if you don't agree to the most extreme opinion, you're a sexist pig."

Have you seen the film, yet? Not that anything you cite isn't accurate, but it all pales in comparison to her narrative arc (if you can even call it an arc) in terms of sexism. So gross.

The movie has two scenes in which women are punched, hard, in the face by men, and both are played for laughs. Harley is male gazed from here to Kingdom Come (DC meta humor what up?) and given zero arc beyond pining after a man who abuses her. Enchantress is mostly naked half the time and even Katana's costume is

I call dibs on "Pussy Generation" as a band name.

I mean, you can…but is your life really better for it?

Reductionism FTW!

"If I could make any HUMAN BEING take one piece of advice, it would be to stay off social media"

Another brick in the "social media is doing more harm than good" wall. Can we all just agree that the whole thing was kind of a bad idea and cram this particular genie back in the bottle?

I also unabashedly loved it.

Ow, right in the childhood!
