Speaking of Burroughs, look for Farmers' "The Jungle Rot Kid on the Nod", his pastiche of Edgar Rice Burroughs and Williams Burroughs.

The original version of "To Your Scattered Bodies" go was called "Owe For the Flesh". It won a contest, but was never finished. PJF rewrote and expanded OFTF into the Riverworld series. The novelette "Riverworld" was published in 1966, when "To Your Scattered Bodies Go" was being serialized, but it stands seperate

I also read the whole series, though it's been a while. "TYSBG" is probably the best of the lot. "The Fabulous Riverboat" suffered from Farmer portraying Sam Clemens as a whiny asshole, and King John as completely ee-vuhl, two dimensional villain. "The Dark Design"'s big flaws were (a) having a protagonist who was

I'd watch a film version of "Car Talk". Maybe they could get Robert DeNiro as Klick, and Joe Pesci as Klack.

Programming void
Why doesn't NBC just throw in the towel and air infomercials in place of Jay Leno? The entertainment level is about the same, the demographic that watched Leno probably enjoys wearing Snuggies and using the magic toothpaste dispenser, and it's pure revenue for NBC (no production costs).

"Rosebud" is a sled.

Torture!
Oh noes! How will I be able to wait 28 days in order to rent instead of buy? Curse those studios taking advantage of my poor self control!

Other sources
The basic idea, a human mind in an artficial life form's body, then sent down to a planet, is very similar to the old SF story "Call Me Joe", by Poul Anderson.

Captain America bought the farm in "Captain America" #25 (March 2007); Batman got zapped by Darkseid in "Final Crisis" #6 (January 2009).
