That's one of my pop-culture resolutions this year. Actually finish Catch-22. I read about 50 pages in high school, loved it, put it down for some reason, and have never gotten back to it. It's an embarrassing cultural gap, and I have the 1970s paperback glaring at me on my dresser all the time.

It's completely worth it. I read it a little older, after having gotten to Pynchon and whatnot, so I think I got more out of it. High school teachers tend to do it as Grim Symbolism 101, when in fact it's very funny and a blast. Plus, it's proto-Pomo in the way it's a constructed narrative about shoring/making up

All That Heaven Allows
I had the exact same thought, Keith, right down to the shot where the characters are reflected in the TV screen. It couldn't have been a coincidence, right?

Yeah, I always fuck that spelling up too. Where did West get the balls?

Original Book
What was the book you were originally going to select, Keith? The "odd, finely crafted novel"? And will that be coming up in the future?

I don't know about the execution of the film. Richard comes across as such an unreliable narrator that's it's hard to believe what he reports as the excessive praise people give it. The idea of the film is so singular though, and so toxic, that I really want to see it. It sounds like something that, if you caught

Yeah, what he said.
