I think to me it really varies from person to person, to me she did a good job of portraying somebody who was anxious and somebody who was trying to hide her condition and defensive/in denial about it.

I think Shoshana works as a character not because she is a typical sitcom character but because she actively tries to be a sitcom character.  If she were just subconsciously behaving like this it would be one thing, but it is pretty clear from the things she says that she is trying to emulate a fantasy TV life.
