In my experience, the average length of a characters death is around 18 months.

After finishing This Changes Everything I needed to retreat to a simpler, less terrifying time, so I've been re-reading some YA classic from my childhood, Gordon Korman's Don't Care High and A Semester in the Life of a Garbage Bag. Both good fun.
