It's a very narrow window between "scary" and "too scary for her". Thanks to these good AV folk's suggestions I'm thinking something older, maybe black and white, might be a better fit.

Stephen King included it in his book on horror Danse Macabre
I'll look that one up. Thanks!
I'll look that one up. Thanks.
I've heard the Babadook is great. Mr Goodbar may just do the trick.
We did Cabin in the Woods already because a) she loves Joss Whedon and b) it was early enough in our relationship that she didn't want to reveal what a wimp she is when it comes to horror. It was WAY too much for her. But thanks for the suggestion, if we hadn't already seen it I would have it on this list.
I hadn't thought of going the Beetlejuice route, but it's a good option, thanks. She's seen Shaun, but the Shining is an excellent choice.
I'll check them both out. I've heard good things about Wicker Man, thanks.
What do you call a potato with glasses?
Some good stuff there. I again pray to the gods of television to make Preacher a hit so I can sell these back issues for mad money!
Colour of Magic is okay, a funny send up of fantasy tropes, but nowhere near the heights he'll reach. I think Mort may be the first truly great book in the series. Also, your italics are open.
Good luck!
Frankenberry.
Movie Recommendations?
None of those things? She was tough and competent, and it was a great run of Wonder Woman. But it's not like he created the character or had as much freedom to write one of DC's "big three" however he wanted. He does write other characters, he just favours a type.
Rucka tends to puts the same type of character as his lead though. Tara Chace, Renee Montoya, Cassie Lanthrop, Carrie Stetko. They're all pretty much the same. Tough, competent, but emotionally damaged, and usually alcoholic. Yes they are complex, but there isn't a lot of variety.
Re-read Locke and Key. So good.
I'd be more worried about the nerf radiation. Who know what effects it might have?
When I was a child, Nerf sold soft foam sports equipment so young children could play sports without the risk of being seriously hurt by an errant football. When did they become just outright weapons manufacturers?
They definitely go together thematically. I'm glad that Pratchett was never so committed to the "reality" of the Disc that it kept him from doing parodies of things that shouldn't exist there, like rock n' roll and movies .
