There is some craziness in the books (a giant octopus attack in Dr.No, a killer plant garden in You Only Live Twice), but in general, the stories and plots are much more grounded and realistic in the novels.

It's nothing but style and Bai Ling. If the style doesn't work for you (it certainly didn't for me) it's a slog. Bai Ling however, works for everyone.
