Excellent work AVClub.
Excellent work AVClub.
Indeed. So, every song ever recorded has the potential to suck? It all depends on how popular it is?
Well, yeah. The hits & the non-hits. They didn't make an ENTIRE album of the stuff. But they played with it.
Not a fan of "Discotheque", but I like what it taught them. "Elevation" is where they nailed the big, dumb, funky rock song. "Discotheque" took a swing at that and missed, it lacked focus. "Elevation" nailed it. As does "Vertigo." "Discotheque" comes across a bit calculated and tight. It's almost earnest in it's…
They hit on the Madchester stuff 6 years before "Pop." Kinda aced it.
If I let a musician's image prevent me from listening to their music I wouldn't be listening to much music.
The Clash, The Pixies, and Talking Heads all were more influential. But U2 have more great songs than all those bands combined.
Nah. putting out stuff like "Moment Of Surrender" & "Breathe" tells me there's still gas in the tank.
True. Christ, it starts with a drum machine. Hardly a staple of 80s U2.
Indeed. The title track is one of U2's finest moments.
What is it a retread of? "A Man & A Woman" is as boundary stretching as "Discotheque" was.
They've never sounded like Radiohead. That has always been a lazy assertion.
Coldplay have never claimed to be difficult to listen to.
You'll never listen to it. Why do you care what it sounds like?
I can't help but be skeptical when hating on something becomes a meme. The grandstanding over what one hates serves no actual purpose and simply makes the haters look small. Expound on what you do enjoy, not what you don't.
Fucking terrible stuff.
Road House.
Did you enjoy the music made by this aspiring musician? Then stop enjoying it because they declared they enjoy the music of STP?
I broke up with a boyfriend cause he couldn't tolerate my enjoyment of Best Coast and he under-performed in bed.
They are assholes. All of them.
