I wanted the storyline to be Inara helping him get to the point where he could accept himself and by way of so doing maybe find a place for himself in this rugged "man's man" type of world they lived in. Obviously, at this point that takes on the look on fanfiction instead of anything realistic…

That's a good point.  There were more prominent male characters in Gilmore Girls, but they mostly served as romantic interests for the female leads.  I'd guess the majority of Inverse Bechdel scenes were between Luke and Jess, since they got their own plot together.

Has this show passed the Inverse Bechdel Test yet?  Has there been yet a scene of two guys talking to each other, let alone about something other than a lady?

I think the key to Oristano's performance is her confidence.  Truly stands up for herself, even if in some weird and self-abnegating ways, and you get the sense of the human core of the character.

I don't think it's supposed to be the "right" position, but I think that it's a much, much more offensive and obnoxious position than it's treated as.

They're surely playing 7-card stud.  Jeremy's analysis makes perfect sense in 7-card stud, and a showdown between trips and a straight is perfectly normal in that game.

Imagine a show starring Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell, and Jean-Ralphio, that managed make them all unlikeable and boring in equal measure.

“Life goes from bad to worse / I still choose to live,” sings Lee, giving voice to Peart’s bittersweet resignation. “No philosophy consoles me in a clockwork universe.”
