Space Dandy was actually fantastic. Absurdist space opera comedy, with occasional pathos…I loved it.

I dunno. There wasn't that much True Detective backlash save for the plagiarism stuff (more warranted than plagiarism claims typically are IMO…especially the Alan Moore lift). And honestly…TD s1, while highly watchable, is at its heart pretty turgid material elevated by 3 things:
Their version of Ceceilia Ann opening the album is unbelievably kickass.
It was a good use of the song. Kevin Smith is surprisingly good at that though. Off the top of my head: I really liked (Nothing But) Flowers opening Clerks 2, as well as "Suzanne" closing Mallrats.
This is, indeed, the best Pixies song. Top 5 Pixies songs:
The Thrilling Adventure Hour is one of my favorite things in the world and I wish it got more attention. Apple Pie!
Archer, The Americans, American Horror Story, Sons of Anarchy, the Strain. Not all those shows are great, but the ones that aren't are at least pretty popular. Then there's pretty successful miniseries stuff like Fargo.
Haven't been through Brill Bruisers yet. And this could very easily balloon to a top-25, buuuut if I'm pressed:
Well, I am going to really miss this show between now and Season 3. just got into it a few weeks ago and have since watched them all. Pretty much every episode was hilarious, but my top 5 are:
Mother Abigail is a textbook example of Magic Negro. Especially problematic since I can't recall any other black characters in THE STAND, despite it featuring an enormous ensemble. And yeah, the down syndrome and deaf-and-dumb characterizations were really trite as well.
The Magician's Land by Lev Grossman - 25% in and really enjoying it. After that is Whiskey Tango Foxtrot by David Shafer (yes, that NYT Book Review really sold it). Then I need to find two more books to fill the gap until The Bone Clocks comes out.
This was the first moment that had me in tears last night. The other two were the embarrassing letter the teacher wrote and the reveal of the anti-semitic picture that the other woman took for motivation.
A Black Widow movie should be a no-brainer at this point. It's Marvel's most recognizable female character. Marvel's movie franchise is so established that even its second and third tier properties are as close to a sure thing as you'll get in Hollywood. And ScarJo is a mega A-List star who just opened a hit sci-fi…
I'll second Orfeo as the best book released this year that I've read. Really good stuff.
I can't wait. 39 days to go!
What if we think he's going to live to 90 and still not finish the books? Because put me in that camp. I don't think he will fail to finish the series because he's close to death…I think he's not going to finish the series because he's unable to finish the series.
Amon was a good villain with a solid origin and a great ending. My only real problem with LOK s1 is that yeah, they kinda had to rush the main plotline. Unalaq (and the broader plot) of S2 were kinda lame, but the season still gave us a lot of good moments like Beginnings and Bolin's film career - his real fight…
I have FiOS, and my speed is awesome on everything except Netflix. Well, the speed is fine, but I get very low res. Everything else, including HBO Go, large file downloads, any Non-Netflix streaming is great.
Man, that Marvel Boy miniseries was awesome.
I think Bachalo is great. Yes, I think he has some bad habits with panel orientation, but I love his style.
