I doubt Herschel would've stayed behind, at the very least I don't think he would've let Maggie go alone;  the group kept him behind during the confrontations and he was only biut when he wandered off alone.

It sets up the reason why the mine is so dangerous and they can't just run in and get the crystals they need.  It also establishes how committed they are to recording history, unwilling to leave even with the disease, and now basically unable because they're outcasts.

I'm surprised that date-rape isn't mentioned in these comments.  She was drunk, barely fending off advances from one guy, and then the professor takes her home and they have sex.  Yeah, she blames herself and claims she knew what she was doing was doing but we don't see any of that and it's not unlike what you would…

Just started watching this show and it's excellent.  And as mentioned ad nauseaum, the title is terrible.  My girlfriend was arguing with me about that until she saw the promos and heard the "Last week on Terriers intro."   Anyway, RIP.
