"Males having more firearms is a pretty solid generalization" —

"Comfortability" is a socially contingent variable, as is access. Further, spikes in male suicide rates in certain places such as Northern Ireland are generally linked to disenfranchisement by the public health experts that are studying the issue. Durkheim's concept of anomie is one of the foundational theoretical

We also know that Paul was part of the U.S. Military; he thought that Mark was part of the Canadian military simply due to where they were.

Labour fairness is one of THE fundamental social justice issues, that's why "women earn X of what men make" is one of the most prominent examples of society's patriarchy.

Helena is actually X-23.

I REALLY like what they've done with Scott's character. A lot of people sort of wrote him off last year as a Nice Guy (tm - the useless strawman corporation) homophobe and seeming interest in Cosima due to his "gay…" comment, but I always got a sort of a "nice guy, but overly nervous and reactionary" vibe to him.

I enjoyed that movie so, so much. My aversion to Mecha Anime does not extend to live action or anything involving kaiju.

I doubt that Olivececile was denying male privilege, but that does not mean that the commodification of maleness does not exist.

The male clones as war machines is obviously the point of them.
"Something more than war machines" as you suggest would make them an arbitrary and pointless plot point. They're representations of the traditional masculine-violent-and-disposable vibe just as the co-option of female agency and physical form has been

"What is the one big picture story that the series is building towards? "

"#1 rated baby!" — Bob Greenblatt

"But the problem with fan service is that it undermines the show’s own characters."

That's what "free will" mode is for. In Sims 3 they allow you to pick five or so different personality traits for your Sims, which causes them to really go crazy when put on Free Will (because those traits interact with hidden traits that you don't have control over).

That's fantastic! I also love that it aired on The CW, given that (unfairly, to a limited extent) the channel has no chance of ever winning one of these things.

Walking Dead Canada: Everyone's Cold Edition.

I'd like to see Ivy again too. The show is very white, which is strange considering that it's set in Austin. One of my pet peeves is the needless white-washing and Americanizing of television — why not make Liam British, rather than forcing us all to ignore that he frequently sounds British? — both of which I consider

I loved Avalon. Have you seen Oshii's follow-up, Assault Girls? It's set in the same world, but focuses entirely on the game aspect of things. It got some poor reviews because not a lot happens in it, but I thought that it was a great "close-up" of the sorts of things that are represented in online games and fantasy

Here's something for the AV Club staff to use for the rest of these:

Bullshiiiiiiit.

A standalone OB movie would be great. Hell, I'd love to see Oshii as the director!
