To me, one of the most informative scenes of 1-3 is how excited George Michael got when he was given a copy of Quicken. This was a guy who really enjoyed the banalities of business, and was "boring", and it felt odd to see that aspect removed. Instead, all of these quirks got dialed up into eccentricities.
While my view of the show isn't as grim as yours, I totally agree that it's ridiculous to argue that an episode requires two viewings to work.
I agree. She was a one-note character with a one-note joke.
They'd be very similar performances though, surely?
The facebook chat thing happens twice. I kept waiting for a payoff that never came…
What a wonderful straw man you've built!
I seriously hope someone over at BBT was paying attention to that joke. Guest star!
You're my favourite type of hipster.
I don't know… what was that show? Because Arrested Development was certainly already very heavily appreciated during its run, and its cancellation received a large deal of coverage on entertainment news because of that.
Great review! This – plus Feinberg's excellent review at HitFix – pretty much add-up to my thoughts on the matter.
@avclub-484e57c24167c2c591fc8ceda82726aa:disqus , he doesn't become Pope for 34 years at this point, so there's a lot of room for him to grow up. I think that's one of the reason's I like this portrayal so much. He comes off as someone who is out of his depth, but is still doing a pretty good job at being…
It's fine that it's about a different America, but that doesn't really have much bearing on the darkness, because there are a billion ways to comment on the modern-era.
I watch Continuum as well, and I've been very impressed at just how much better it's gotten this season.
Understanding as in: Not calling the cops due to forcible confinement and domestic assault.
How does predictability impact the worth-whileness of the review? It doesn't. This site reviews plenty of week-by-week shows that it finds miserable.
The pleasantest surprise of this season of AD has been, for me, how fun Isla Fisher was in her role. She fit perfectly into the AD universe.
Should I watch Veep?
@avclub-9e3b631d801e19a9e92a405ea759e09f:disqus , the entire storyline was very dark, which is a bit odd considering the frequent "moral lessons" that 1-3 ended with.
Ep.7, Colony Collapse (Gob) and Ep. 12, "Señoritis" (Maeby). I'd probably give both Gob episodes an A, but I enjoyed Colony Collapse a little bit more.
