I was under the impression that Gaiman wrote a scene for this episode, and then Moffat wrote the last episode's "the kids figure it out" scene when they had to drop Gaiman's introduction from the episode.

I have a nightmare theory that "Fall of the Eleventh" refers to the Doctor falling in love. It's the sort of horrible wordplay + love conquers all! shenanigans that this show is prone to falling into these days.

YES.  While I am nervous about this storyline, I am automatically on-board for any story that moves in a bold direction.

It was solid writing and excellent character beats!

Ahh, I didn't notice that parallel, and now I like that "couples camp" conceit even more.

Only old school screens do the flickering.

Really?  Three episodes you don't agree with and it undermines the very concept of reviews?

@avclub-b9a25e422ba96f7572089a00b838c3f8:disqus , think about "Journey".
Clara is being chased through the Tardis by a monster, but she's also stopping to giggle at every fun room she sees, and then actually decides to start reading a cool book that she finds.

That's how I took it.  Not that he had Cyberman "in him" technologically, but that it had shaken his brain up a bit.

Cold War showed that she was straight-up scared.

She's the most similar-to-the-Doctor companion that he's ever had, imo.
That's part of why I'd wager she's not working as well, because she acts a lot like him, and is seemingly motivated by pure curiosity.  That she was laughing at everything she found in the Tardis while also running for her life ("Journey")

Clara is fine.  An ill-defined character can always be better defined.

I caught it on Youtube after.  I loved it.  It was super intense Moffatt at his most deliciously overwrought and melodramatic.  I can't wait!

I agree, they were definitely saying "these are effectively a series of bizarre dates", which is something that they should have said far sooner.

A C- is really bad?

I thought it was a good line.  It sort of hinted that being linked to the Cyberiad had left him with some residual uncharacteristic thoughts.

Yes.
