Eaglesham is fantastic.  His Marrina redesign for the last Alpha Flight maxi is one of the best costume revamps in recent history.

We don't know that she died, we simply know that she was comatose and her heart wasn't beating. As far as I'm concerned, her counting as having died with vamp blood in her system wouldn't make a lot of sense…

Caroline has clearly devised a system for making up lost time. At this point, she probably gets her nutrients intravenously! (Ha! …cuz blood bags)

This would all be excusable if the writers actually meant to use Elena's thirst for revenge as a sign that she's still pretty corrupt and awful, but it's being treated as any Elena plot.

I'd love if they just randomly started throwing in celebrity deaths.  They don't even have to be deaths that happen in Mystic Falls!

I'm really hoping that next season will be more of an ensemble, because as you noted, the focus on Elena was distracting and not at all appropriate given the plots occurring during the episode.

The thing with the Damon killing Matt, is that they set it up as a slow build, and TVD doesn't use that rhythm for killing.  Even when someone is a prisoner, such as Mason, the actual part where they're killed happens quickly and without a buildup. The departure from typical pacing could thus work as a tipoff that it…

This episode was awkwardly structured.  The writers had Caroline drop into the Salvatore/Elena storyline, then the Matt/Rebekah storyline, and then move into her own storyline…  A storyline that was about her going up against the guy who wants to make the dead walk the earth again.  This wouldn't be a problem…

Its true.  I was really excited when I heard of this book, right as it was becoming an internet darling.  I finally read it after putting down change for the hardcover, and holy crap it was bad.

I really like Amy's standup, but the sketches here… I feel like they would have gotten poor reviews if they were on Saturday Night Live.
