The problem with swimmers' personalities is that, unlike professional athletes, they really only get interviewed once every four years so they have literally no PR training or camera presence. Even a Usain Bolt (for example) gets put in front of the camera more for commercials, etc.

As I mention somewhere else in this thread I used to be a (horrible) competitive swimmer. What makes it more amazing is Lezak is a good body length behind a guy who has about six inches on him *and* is the world record holder in that event. I remember watching it live and saying "no way does he win this".

Also one of my favorite "calls" of all time. The guy starts out being incredibly fair and even says "look, on paper the French have it" before the race starts. He even calls the US as having won silver before losing it as Lezak pulls ahead.
