I agree with the comments about the art. I don't know why they couldn't have animated this one with the old model sheets or something. Well, Tatum's a pretty big guy, so I assumed it was to surprise him and for him to not fight back, because if he knew she was attacking him, he could've relatively easily incapacitated her.
If memory serves (and because I'm too lazy to actually check IMDB), she was also in another Elmore Leonard adaptation, the TV miniseries Maximum Bob with Beau Bridges. I was pretty much a kid when that was on, but I remember liking it a lot.
This is one of my favorite episodes of TNBA. The animation is spectacular.

As I recall, The Lost Years was actually created off of the scripts for Old Wounds and Sins of the Father, rather than vice versa. So it was never intended for that whole story to be shown on screen. Those episodes provided enough background for the comic team to flesh out a larger story.
